Five Perspectives for these Times

These are difficult times. We all need certain perspectives to help us understand and respond to our reality. I chose five that have worked for me.

Instead of writing an elaborate piece, I thought I will attempt something I have never done before — express through a haiku. In simple terms, a haiku is an unrhymed poetic form with seventeen syllables in all. A haiku has five syllables in the first line, seven in the second, and five in the third and last.

The pictures used are of things I have seen, nurtured or created in these times. They have been a source of inspiration for me.

One: Meaning

The outcome of an art-based centering exercise

Life is a scribble

But not without its beauty,

For those who seek it

Two: Gratitude

A Rosebush in bloom

What a splendid gift!

Three roses in just one day.

Good morning, indeed

Three: Hope

A sunset from the terrace

Hold on to hope, mate.

The sun sets to rise again,

After calm or storms

Four: Compassion

Trees at Cubbon Park

Fruits, wood, shade, and awe -

Many gifts received from trees.

Whose tree will you be?

Five: Curiosity

My cat embodies curiosity like no one else at home

Seeing with fresh eyes

Creates a sense of wonder,

Even in tedium.
